Yoga includes physical poses (asanas) that develop strength, suppleness, endurance; rhythmic control of the breath (pranayama) and meditation. Yoga is considered by some to be a good workout, but much of the work is internal. The primary goal of the original yogis from 5,000 years ago was to quiet their minds. Yoga promotes physical and emotional health, with students often reporting relief from pain and stress. It is suitable for all ages, body types and levels of fitness.

Yoga in the tradition of BKS Iyengar is known for meticulous attention to alignment, integrity in dynamic practice of classical poses and the creative use of props (chairs, blankets, bolsters, ropes, blocks) to help each student find a good way to work with the poses.
BKS Iyengar was born in 1918 and resides in Pune, India. He continues with an active practice of Yoga to this day. He is the author of several books. He also has developed numerous props to enable people of all skill levels to safely and beneficially practice Yoga.
How does Iyengar Yoga differ from other styles of yoga? The Iyengar method places special focus on developing strength, endurance and correct body alignment in addition to flexibility and relaxation. As students do Yoga poses, the mind is focused on the actions of the pose and the movement of the breath.
