Class Descriptions

Our classes are either DROP-IN or SERIES.

Drop-in classes meet every week and are on-going. Series classes meet every week over 4, 5, or 6 weeks requiring a commitment of multiple dates.

DROP-IN CLASSES

Level 1:   For continuing beginning students. Refinement of basic poses, with an emphasis on standing poses, seated poses and beginning inversions. Many students take this level several times.

All Levels: All Levels classes are for practitioners with varied levels of experience, not for beginners.  Teachers will adapt asanas as needed for each individual. These classes are typically active and designed to inspire participants to challenge themselves.

Level 2:  Deeper and expanded study of the basic poses, with increased study of inversions and backward extensions.

Focused Practice: This class will focus on creating pathways towards challenging asanas. Working toward challenging poses helps clear away habitual behavior, brings fresh eyes to practice, and sees fundamental poses in a new way. Using principles and actions from familiar poses, we’ll work on maintaining stability and focus, while adding new elements as we work toward new goals.

SERIES

Beginners: In this series of 6 classes, you will learn the foundations of yoga to help you build strength and flexibility and to relieve stress. This is an active class, excellent for those who are totally new to yoga. This class is not for students with serious physical limitations. Each 60-minute session will build upon the prior class in a progressive manner.

Ageless Intro is a multi-week series for students who are new to Iyengar yoga. Each 75-minute session is suitable for people who want to increase balance and stability and may have physical limitations, requiring them to practice slowly and with focus.  The intent is to build strength, improve balance and coordination, and develop a sense of well-being. Participants must be able to get up and down off the floor.

Ageless Continuing is a multi-week series for students with at least six months of Iyengar yoga experience who want to continue to build strength, improve balance and coordination, and reduce stress. Each 75-minute session teaches students how to help themselves, using the healing benefits of Iyengar yoga as their tool. It offers techniques for joint support, muscular strength, balance maintenance, and injury prevention. Participants may have physical limitations, but must be able to get up and down off the floor.

Restorative: In this series of 4 classes, emphasis is on deepening practice by focusing on pranayama (extension and expansion of energy) and pratyahara (withdrawal of the senses). The primary objective is to support the body and breath in poses for extended periods, supported by the use of props. It is especially beneficial for internal work and has a tonic effect on the nervous system.
